Why not Synthetic?

Woven Coir Mat vs. Synthetic Mat

When synthetic erosion and sediment control products are used to protect and restore our environment, there are many problems that come along with them. The main problem associated with synthetic products are their non-biodegradability, and thus, they do not mix well with the soil and it is difficult for vegetation to be established. All synthetic erosion control blankets have fixed joints which interfere with wildlife movements. Small mammals and reptiles can get caught in the netting and die because they are unable to free themselves. Also, synthetic blankets are not very flexible which makes them more difficult to install.  Once installed, it is difficult to maintain because these blankets interfere with mowing equipment.  During regular maintenance activities, these blankets tangle with mowing equipment and get ripped off with the soil creating more damage and result in ineffective restoration.

Sediment is the main cause of water pollution. With every rain event, sediment slowly gets into the rivers and lakes

When synthetic products are used for sediment control, they are required to be removed upon completion of construction work. These removed materials are moved to landfills. Thus, these products have indirect costs such as removal, hauling and landfill costs. Finally, the use of synthetic products compared to sediment control significantly increase the cost of sediment control and cause damages our environment.

You can use RoLanka’s Geo Natural soil erosion and sediment control products to avoid all these problems.  The main advantage of our Geo Natural products is they are environmentally friendly and provide aesthetically pleasing applications.  The open weave in our woven coir erosion control blankets allows easy establishment of vegetation through the mat and allows planting through the material without cutting it. The openings also allow for wildlife movement which means that the reptiles and mammals can remove themselves from the products if they find themselves in it. RoLanka’s natural products become mulch and improve the soil after their lifespan. These products provide a stronger support for restoration projects and they are aesthetically pleasing and more cost effective then the synthetic mats. RoLanka’s all-natural sediment control products are the most versatile, completely biodegradable, natural fiber products available in the market for effective sediment control during construction.

RoLanka’s all-natural products are the most versatile, completely biodegradable natural fiber products available in the market for tough erosion problems. They are woven from machine-spun bristle coir twines and it provides stronger, durable, and a more environmentally friendly solution in severe erosion problems where synthetic erosion control blankets are used and specified. When synthetic erosion control products are used for restoration, they pose many problems as we have read above. It is time to switch over and start using RoLanka’s Products.
