The BioD-Pillow is composed of a 1-2 in. thick pad of mattress coir fiber encased in a case made of the BioD-Mat 40 woven coir blanket. The 1-2 in. coir pillow comes in one size 3 ft. wide by 15 ft. long.
The mattress coir pad holds seeds in place and provides a suitable medium for germinating seeds. Also, it is possible to plant with seedlings and place in water to vegetate needed areas.
The strong bristle coir twine case holds the coir for extended time and makes it easier to handle. The pillow has a thick pad of coir which is good for trapping sediment leaving construction sites. When used in construction, the BioD-Pillow can be laid on the stream bank to establish vegetation.
It is also excellent for making floating islands to create spawning grounds for aquatic animals. The flexible case design prevents animal entrapment.
The BioD-Pillow can be used in wetlands, nurseries, floating islands, sediment trapping, and field instillation. It has a high-water holding capacity which keeps roots moist in dry weather conditions.
