StreamBank Restoration

Stream bank restoration is a set of techniques or methods used to protect properties and infrastructure by reducing erosion, minimizing the down cutting of a stream bank, and restoring the ecosystems. The goal of a stream restoration is to restore the stream physically, chemically, and biologically and return it as close as possible to the original state. It seeks to stabilize channels within the environment and reduce erosion of the banks and downstream sediment. Due to the extensive and increasing erosional damage of many stream bank areas, it can cause a loss of aesthetics and habitat degradation to the stream and stream bank. At that point it is necessary to have a stream bank restoration.

After deciding to restore the stream bank, you must decide which RoLanka products work best for you and your specific stream bank restoration. It will be best to use RoLanka’s all natural, biodegradable products, including the BioD-Mat, BioD-Rolls, BioD-Blocks and the BioD-SuperLogs. You will also need twine and stakes to secure the Coir fiber products.

StreamBank Restoration with BioD-SuperLog

Although all projects are different, here is an example. You can install our BioD-SuperLogs on the bank and anchor them in with stakes. Next, you will place SuperLogs on top of the first row, add shrubs and plants in between each layer of SuperLogs, to protect the bank. The BioD-Mat 70 can then be placed on the bank above and be planted with native plants to control the erosion.

All different kinds of stream bank restorations are possible. Although you may need a different product for yours. For more information on your specific streambank restoration, visit www.rolanka.com, contact us at rolanka@rolanka.com, or call us at (770) 506-8211.
