BioD-Mat is a 100% biodegradable soil erosion control blanket. The blanket is woven from machine-spun bristle coir fiber twines that provides higher resistance upon installation while supporting growth and development of vegetation. These products have the longevity of 4 to 6 years.
They allow designers to go beyond the design limits of other types of organic soil erosion control blankets due to the openings in between. There are four kinds of BioD-Mat – the BioD-Mat 40, BioD-Mat 60, BioD-Mat 70, and the BioD-Mat 90. These mats are also sold in four different sizes. There is a 3.28ft x 83ft roll, 6.5ft x 166ft roll, 9.84ft x 166ft roll, and a 13.1ft x 83ft roll.
All the four blankets have an open weave which allows for reseeding before and after instillation. The difference in the four blankets is the weight of each blanket which reflects from the sizes of the openings between the weave. The BioD-Mat 40 has an opening of 0.75in x 0.75in between the weave for planting. BioD-Mat 60’s opening is 0.75in x 0.5in. BioD-Mat 70 has an opening of 0.5in x 0.5in and BioD-Mat 90’s opening is 0.3in x 0.5in. The open weave with flexible twine in these blankets helps to plant through the mat without cutting it.
The BioD-Mat 40 is the mat with the biggest holes between the coir fiber weave. These blankets allow designers and specifiers to go beyond the design limits of other types of organic soil erosion control blankets. These mats are great with erosion on slopes, erosion control on stream banks, wetland areas, and low flow channels with mulch underneath. As well as all types of soil bioengineering applications.
The BioD-Mat 60 woven coir erosion control blanket provides higher resistance upon installation while supporting growth and development of vegetation. When selecting and specifying woven coir erosion control blankets, designers should not only consider the unit weight, but also the wet tensile strengths, coir type, open area as well as machine direction and cross direction twine counts. This mat is used for moderate flow channels, slopes, streambank, and wetland restoration, and for aesthetically pleasing applications.
The BioD-Mat 70 soil erosion control blanket is an excellent protective liner for storm water discharge ditches and channels to reduce sediment pollution. This blanket is used in high flow channels, slopes (with a lower slope then BioD-Mat 40 and 60 is used for), streambanks and shorelines and wetland areas.
The last soil erosion blanket is the BioD-Mat 90, which has the smallest holes between the coir fiber weave. This one is the strongest natural erosion control blanket for touch erosion problems, it is known to preform better then most synthetic erosion control blankets. This blanket is used for wetland and streambank restoration, slopes, and high flow channels.
All these mats play a big role in being used for many different types of soil erosion control.
